Low Tatras

is a mountain range of the geological Fatra-Tatra region within the Carpathian Mountains, in Slovakia. This region is located to the south-east, opposite the High Tatras. The Low Tatras apart from the higher points, are densely wooded, dominated to the north-side by coniferous forest and on the south-side by mixed woodland. Heights from 1.500 until 1.800 metres above ground are dominated by mountain pine (Pinus mugo) and above that matgrass (Nordus stricta) dominates. Several karst areas are situated in limestone at the northern edges of the main ridge and support the growth of rare alpine plant, including the Alpine gentian.
